At Year’s End
The end of year on the Green is somewhat waterlogged but there is much to celebrate.
Thank you to everyone who enjoys the Green, and to our Friends, Trustees and other volunteers, for collectively making the Green a safe and refreshing haven over the last year. We are also grateful for the ongoing support we receive from Lewisham Council’s Nature Conservation team and those working for Greenscene, from Nature’s Gym, and many others.
This October we again received a Green Flag Community Award. In addition, despite C-19, we safely hosted a film production company on the Green and, in June, the Teatro Vivo performance, “Tales from the Common”. We commissioned local artist Walter Hayn to create a set of drawings documenting the event. They are so evocative and are visible in a previous blog post.
Finally, we are pleased to have secured funding from the Kenneth White Legacy Award for “Birds, Bats, Butterflies and Bees: Albion Millennium Green Biodiversity Project” which will run over 2022. As part of this project, we will build and install bird and bat boxes. We are hoping to hold a community butterfly identification event in Spring 2022 facilitated by Big City Butterflies, a new butterfly conservation project. We will make further information available in due course so that anyone who wants to be involved, can be.
Best wishes to all for a happy and fulfilling 2022.
