The Pond Refurbishment has taken place!
The pond, first installed in 2016, was in need of repair. The liner had perished, and the pond was no longer holding water. With funding obtained from the Kenneth White Legacy Award we were able to commission the charity Froglife to carry out this work which was completed on a damp and muddy Thursday 22 January.
We are so grateful to the team from Froglife and to the extra volunteer-power from the London Blue Chain!
It will take a while for the pond to get re-established, for the water level to rise (we are relying on rain water for this, as it is better for pond life, and thank goodness it is fairly rainy at the moment) and for the new planting (all native species) to grow. So do please bear with us. We ask everyone – including 4-footed visitors to the Green – to take care around the pond over the next months and leave it undisturbed.
While working, a lot of frogs were discovered, living in the pond. They were carefully removed to a safe place but were seen leaping back in once the work had been done.
Thanks once again to Froglife, who will hopefully be running one or more pond/frog-related events on the Green later in the year. We will post news about this in due course.
