New Year greetings to everyone who enjoys the Green, whether as a visitor or as a volunteer, Friend, or Trustee.

A reminder, too, that we are keen to welcome new volunteers and friends with an interest in caring for the Green (at our monthly workdays, for instance). Helping out is a great way of doing something practical to protect and improve the environment in Forest Hill. It is also an excellent form of exercise, enjoyable, and a very good way of getting to know like-minded locals. Please just turn up at a workday – the next one is Saturday 10 January – or email us.

Some news. Later this January we will be refurbishing the pond thanks to funding from the Kenneth White Award. The environmental charity Froglife will do the work for us. Over the course of the year we are planning to hold one or more all-age pond and amphibian-related nature events on the Green. Children will of course need to be accompanied and supervised by parents or carers.

On Saturday 2 May between 11.00 am and 1.30 pm we will celebrate World Labyrinth Day on the Green. We will hold free drop-in labyrinth-walking workshops and creative activities, including a special labyrinth walk for peace at 1pm called “Walk as One at 1.” The event will be suitable for all ages although, again, children will need to be accompanied and supervised by parents or carers.
