Albion Millennium Green Trust Safeguarding Policy

Albion Millennium Green Trust Safeguarding Policy

Date: November 2025

This Safeguarding Policy applies to the Trustees of Albion Millennium Green Trust (Trustees), the Friends of Albion Millennium Green (Friends), volunteers who help maintain the Green, and/or run activities and events at the site, and individuals or organisations who (whether voluntary or not) carry on or host activities and events on Albion Millennium Green (Volunteers).

1. Albion Millennium Green is a public space, and access is unrestricted.

2. Albion Millennium Green Trust (AMGT) is committed to the principle that everyone has the right to protection from abuse regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, sexuality, or religious or other beliefs.

3. AMGT is especially committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults who join an AMGT workday or participate in any activities provided by or promoted by AMGT.

4. Activities carried out on Albion Millennium Green, such as workdays or other maintenance work, open days, or other organised activities, do not involve the Trustees, Friends or Volunteers working with, or otherwise coming into contact with, children or vulnerable adults unless those children or vulnerable adults are under the supervision of a responsible adult (either a parent or carer).

5. Activities carried out on Albion Millennium Green are not regulated activities within the meaning of Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 and Friends, Trustees, Friends and Volunteers are not required to be subject to DBS checks.

6. All AMGT activities, workdays and other events shall be planned and executed having due regard to the safety and well-being of all participants.

7. Risk assessments shall be conducted for all workdays, events and other activities, which shall consider the safety and well-being of all participants, but shall have a particular regard to the needs and requirements of children and vulnerable adults.

8. All participants in AMGT workdays or in other AMGT activities will be treated with respect and dignity.

9. AMGT will not tolerate any form of abuse, neglect, or exploitation, including bullying, harassment, or discrimination, in the course of any workday or other AMGT activities. Any person found to be in breach of this principle shall be asked to leave the workday or activity with immediate effect.

10. Children and vulnerable adults must always be accompanied by a responsible family member or carer while volunteering as part of an AMGT workday or whilst participating in any AMGT activity. At no time are Trustees, Friends or Volunteers permitted to take responsibility for the care of children or vulnerable adults that are not members of their own family.

11. The Trustees are committed to working with all relevant agencies or authorities to take appropriate actions in the event of any concerns raised about the welfare of children or vulnerable adults, taking into proper account all applicable policies, procedures and legal requirements.

12. Any concerns about the welfare of children or vulnerable adults should be reported to the Chair of the Trustees (chairamgtrust@gmail.com) with a written record of the concern, including the date, time, and details of the incident or concern.

13. The Chair of the Trustees shall handle all information sensitively and in accordance with applicable data protection laws. Information should only be shared with relevant individuals on a need-to-know basis, for example the other Trustees (unless the report concerns one of the Trustees, and disclosure to that Trustee shall compromise the subject of the report or the person making the report).

14. The Chair of Trustees, together with the other Trustees, will assess the situation and decide on the appropriate course of action, which may involve contact external authorities (such as social services or the police).

15. This Safeguarding Policy shall be maintained and kept up to date, and reviewed at least annually.
